BOOKS #27. Italy Jewish Travel Guide

Translated from the Italian edition by Annie Sacerdoti, the Italy Jewish Travel Guide is the most intense volume about the Jews of Italy. It is richly illustrated with vintage photographs and maps, and contains information about the hundreds of synagogues and Jewish communities throughout the country including Florence, Rome and Turin. There is actually a Jewish cemetery located within a couple of hundred feet of the Leaning Tower of Pisa. There are chapters relating to the hundreds of ghettos and especially the one in Venice. Many of Italy’s Arks and Bimas have been relocated throughout the State of Israel. Some are located in Israel’s Parliament, the Knesset, others are in the great Poneviz Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, while others are located in the Heichal Shlomo, former site of Israel’s Chief Rabbinate.
