The book continues with glorious color and black and white photographs of the congregations in the Lower East Side, Midtown, Upper East Side, Upper West Side, Harlem and Washington Heights.

Some of the congregations featured are the Eldridge Street Synagogue, the Bialystoker Synagogue, the Rumaniashe Shul, Temple Emanu-El, Rodef Sholom, B’nai Jeshurun, the Greek Shul, Central Synagogue, Park Avenue Synagogue, Sutton Place Synagogue, Park East Synagogue, The Jewish Center, Temple Israel of Harlem, Shaare Zedek and Ansche Chesed.

There are stories about the first Chief Rabbi in New York, Jacob Joseph, and the pogrom which occurred during his funeral; about the Breuer Kehilah in Washington Heights; Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Talmudical Seminary  (today’s Yeshiva University) and the Jewish Theological Seminary.
