Tour #2. Jewish Harlem

Two-hour walking and/or bus tour of historic Jewish Harlem. Once a prominent Jewish neighborhood with over 176,000 Jews, it rivaled Manhattan’s Lower East Side around 1910. We will see the great synagogues such as the First Hungarian Ohab Zedek, Shaare Zedek of Harlem and Temple Israel. One of the world’s greatest cantors, Yossele Rosenblatt, lived within walking distance to his synagogue. We will see the site of the Ethiopian Hebrew Congregation. There will be a stop near the old cast-iron Fire Tower in Mount Morris Park built in 1857. There will a stop at Harlem’s famous Apollo Theatre, which was originally built as Hurtig and Seaman’s New Burlesque Theatre. Also included, if this a bus tour, is a visit to Grant’s Tomb.

Tour Fee: $25/person for groups of ten or more.
Single person private tour: $150/hour. Minimum two hours.
Group tour for congregation or school–$500 per group.
Fee does not include tour inside the historic Apollo Theatre nor bus charter.
